korean food / seoul / A strong friend, the 5 best potato restaurants – 1341

Dip a well-ripened potato once in salty salt and once in sweet sugar and eat it with a rich flavor. I had a childhood where I spent the summer lying on a flat surface in the shade draped under a big tree and let the wind blow in the sky. When I just look at potatoes, I even think of my grandmother who put a basket in front of me asking me to eat more. Potatoes, which are delicious even when eaten alone, can be boiled, baked, steamed, rubbed, and crushed to make a variety of dishes. Also, even if potatoes aren't the main dish, they are often served together as a companion. Today, I'll introduce places that serve delicious dishes using potatoes that are in season.

1. Turkish potato dish, Hongdae, 'Stay with Kumpir'

“Stay with Kumpir” sells “kumpir”, a Turkish potato dish. Kumpir is a Turkish potato dish loved by travelers from all over the world, famous in Istanbul, and is a healthy dish where baked potatoes are topped with cheese, various toppings, and steaks.

Stay with Kumpir's popular menu is “beefsteak kumpir.” You can choose between potatoes and sweet potatoes, and you can enjoy it even more if you put various toppings on the brioche bread that comes with it. Combining rich potatoes, savory cheese, and hearty meat, kumpir contains spicy jalapeno, which captures the feeling. You can choose from a variety of toppings. “Spicy Chicken Kumpir,” which is based on sweet potatoes, is a combination of sweet and spicy chicken, where you can enjoy the spicy flavor of sweet and salty.

You can add a crunchy texture by breaking the basic nachos into small pieces and putting them on top of the kumpir. If you run out of kumpir bread, you can refill it, and a drink or beer is included when ordering a set.

2. Healthy Enjoyment, Seochon, 'Cafe Help'

Cafe 'Help' located in Seochon is a place that sells sandwiches, salads, and juice juice for health. Since the ingredients are prepared and cooked as soon as they are ordered, it takes some time for the food to be served, but many customers wait leisurely while watching the sincerity that goes into a glass of juice.

All of the sandwiches at “Help” are popular, but many people are looking for the “Potato Bacon Grill Sandwich” which contains potatoes. Sliced and baked potatoes have a smooth texture and are rich in satiety, and you can feel that they melt softly as you chew them. It is characterized by adding a combination of salty bacon and savory cheese to create a rich flavor. If you dip the red pepper that comes with the plate and eat it, you can add a spicy flavor, so you can enjoy it in a different way. It's a hot sandwich baked on a grill, so it's best to try it before it cools. A drink often ordered with sandwiches is “kiwi kale juice,” and the sweet and sour flavor of kiwi captures the bitter flavor of kale, making it easy for people who are new to kale to enjoy it.

Please note that there is a break time to prepare materials. It is located in an alley, so parking is not possible, but it is said that there is a paid parking lot nearby. You can check the changes on the official Instagram (@help .nuhaha) before visiting.

▲Location: 44 Nuha-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul ▲Business hours: 12:00-20:00 on weekdays, break time 15:30-17:00, Saturday 13:00-20:00, Sunday 13:00, 19:00, closed on Mondays ▲Price range: Potato, bacon, grill sandwich, 10,000 won, avocado smoothie 7,000 won ▲Review (Dawn of Shikigin Gourmet): I saw kale juice on social media and went to Cafe Help because I was curious. It's quite far from my place of residence, so the three of us made 3 sandwiches with 3 juices and tried them. I ordered three kinds of juice: basil tomato, lemon orange, and kiwi kale, and for the sandwich, grilled eggplant mozzarella sandwich, grilled potato bacon sandwich, and grilled avocado bacon sandwich. For the most part, it wasn't salty and had a healthy flavor, so I was able to eat it casually. The basil tomato was sweeter than the other two drinks, the lemon orange had a fresh flavor, and the kiwi kale didn't have a stronger basil flavor than I thought, and it seemed like anyone could drink it casually. The grilled eggplant mozzarella grill sandwich was light and tasty even though I don't usually like eggplant, and the avocado bacon grill sandwich went well with the mild flavor of avocado and the salty flavor of bacon. The potato bacon grill sandwich was the most familiar flavor of the three sandwiches. The drinks and sandwiches all tasted satisfying. Also, there are four people working, and it was nice that they worked hard and tried to make it quickly even though there was a lot of orders.

3. Potatoes are from Gangwon Province! , Gangneung, 'Gamjabau'

“Gamabau” is located in Gangneung, Gangwon-do, famous for its potatoes. It is located near Gangneung Central Market and is often visited by tourists. They have not only a traditional potato-based menu, but also a snack menu that is easy to accompany, so it's great to go with a cup of makgeolli.

Popular menus are “Ongsimi” and “Potato Zen.” Yongshim, which is made using the unique chewiness of potato starch, is based on a refreshing anchovy broth, and can be enjoyed casually by people of all ages. The potato noodles are crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, made with just a little salt to match the grated potatoes, chives, and seasoning. Refreshing kimchi served as a basic dish goes well with sweet and sour radish greens. There are many customers who also order “kale noodles,” but they are famous for their spiciness because they are traditional jangkal noodles from Gangwon Province. It's a good idea to refer to it when ordering.

Since it is located in Gangneung city, parking may be difficult, and the 'meal' menu may not be available late. Note that it is located on the 2nd floor and the entrance is narrower than expected.

“Ganggane Millstone Bed Bun Mochi” in Hannam-dong is famous for its homemade mung bean bedbug mochi and various exhibitions. At the end of a hard day, there are many regular customers who come to eat a refreshing bowl of makgeolli and savory noodles, but since appearing on a recent gourmet broadcast, it is a place visited by many young people. The interior, which is imbued with signs of time, has a unique nostalgic atmosphere.

The most popular menu items are “mung bean bedae-mochi,” which is deep-fried in oil and is crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, and “potato rice cake,” which has an attractive, chewy texture. Since mung beans brought directly from Jeolla-do are soaked, prepared one by one, ground on a millstone, and baked, the savory flavor of mung beans is excellent. Furthermore, cabbage and bean sprouts were added to the moist filling to add a crunchy texture. Potato noodles are characterized by a crispy edge and a chewy texture on the inside, which is rich in natural flavor and aroma due to the high content of potatoes.

The mung bean platter consists of mung bean paste, meatballs, tofu, sesame leaves, red pepper, eringi mushroom, zucchini, and dongtaejeon, and the kimchi platter contains kimchi instead of mung bean paste, so be sure to check when ordering. In addition to all the menus, there are many dishes that are good to accompany, such as stir-fry, sauce, and soup, and there are various types of makgeolli available, so you can choose whatever you like.

Go to store information ▶

“Gnocchi” is a traditional Italian dish made mainly of potatoes and flour. Among the few restaurants that serve gnocchi in Korea, “Yeonnam Terrace” is a place that has gone viral for its delicious gnocchi. It is a nationless dining restaurant that uses Mexican and Asian spices in Korean ingredients and is prepared using Western recipes. In addition to the interior space on the 3rd floor, there is a rooftop on the 4th floor, so when the weather is nice, you can sit on the terrace and enjoy the food.

The most popular menu item is “Green Curry Whole Bacon Gnocchi,” which combines green curry sauce, potato gnocchi, and thick whole bacon. The heavy curry sauce and chewy texture unique to gnocchi are exquisite. The fragrant basil and the freshness of dried tomatoes in the middle add a rich flavor. “Eggplant tempura” with deep-fried eggplant and tomato in Bologna-style ragu sauce is also one of Yeonnam Terrace's popular dishes. Not long ago, a new gnocchi menu featuring caramelized walnuts and goat cheese on a cream made from roasted beets was launched.

The store has an open kitchen, so you can watch the chefs cook. The point is that you can enjoy dishes made with new combinations of ingredients that have never been seen before.
