korean food / seoul / 5 emerging restaurants for all drinking buddies that come to mind when it rains – 2446

“Jeon” is a food made by cutting ingredients such as fish, vegetables, and meat into thin slices, coated with flour, egg, and water, and then soaked in oil. It's similar to “chijimi,” where ingredients are cut into small pieces and rolled out in a thick dough, but it is characterized by maintaining the shape and flavor of the ingredients as much as possible. It was also eaten as a court dish in the Joseon Dynasty under the name Jeon Yu-hwa (pan-yu-hwa), and has a long history of being served on every feast and snack since ancient times. The rice crackers are transformed into a variety of shapes depending on the main ingredients, such as chanjeon, yukjeon, leek jeon, potato paste, zucchini paste, tofu, pepper paste, sesame leaf paste, mushroom paste, and dongtaejeon.

Makgeolli, which is essential when served, has a unique, fresh flavor that captures the fat and goes great with rice. Recently, there has been an increase in the number of Korean bars where you can enjoy a variety of alcoholic beverages beyond makgeolli. You can enjoy pairing with a variety of alcoholic beverages, such as traditional sake made in Paldo all over the country, fresh natural wine, and heavy whiskey, and it encompasses the tastes of many generations. “Big Bang Po Cha” exudes the sensibility of a long-established store near exit 3 of the triangular area. They offer delicious snacks that go well with a cup of sake, such as fried chicken soup, marinated chicken, chicken feet, omelette, and poop. It is characterized by a comfortable flavor that the boss presents without finesse, just like eating it at home. The signature menu, “leek chives,” uses almost no chijimi powder and contains plenty of chives to give off a dark green color, which is impressive. Chives cooked thoroughly in oil have an attractive, moist texture because the fat is deeply soaked to the inside. If you take a bite of chives that contain plenty of oil, you can fully enjoy the fragrant yet fresh flavor of chives.

â–²Testimonial (Water Sprayer): Originally, it was a regular restaurant where I often went to drink with my friends, but it was introduced by Choi Ja Road and became so famous that now waiting is basic. If you go here, the leek paste, which you must try, doesn't have a crispy feel, but it's so delicious that you don't think the rice should be crispy! They have plenty of alcohol and snacks, and they also kill pumpkin paste, which can only be ordered when the boss isn't busy.

2. Hapjeong 'geography' that captures the atmosphere of Mt. Jira

“Jiri” is a Korean restaurant newly launched by “Choi Kang Geum Tonkatsu,” which is well known as a pork cutlet restaurant. You can enjoy food made with ingredients grown and raised on Mt. Jiri together with a variety of traditional sake. The signature menu starts with an appetizer consisting of kimbu-gak, black pork patty, and pickled radish, followed by a “entry-made meal” where potato soup, herb steak, pork ribs, LA ribs, meal, and dessert are served one after the other. Among the courses, the “Jirisan Wild Vegetable Exhibition,” where fern, morel, and mulberry leaves collected from Mt. Jiri are cut in a circle, is the most popular. You can feel the flavors of each herb as if it were moving in your mouth. Thanks to its bitter yet light flavor, it goes well with makgeolli.

â–²Testimonial (Dota Shikigami): I made a reservation on Instagram because it was opening time. I always liked to try a variety of foods, so I ate them dressed up, and each one was delicious because they were clean. Even though I don't really like herbs, the noodles here were really easy, and the pork stew made from Berkshire instead of beef was delicious. hehe

“Mukjeon” is a renovated family house with wooden interiors and a cozy atmosphere. It boasts a spacious space with a three-story interior space and terrace seats. The signature menu, “Rural Market Group Exhibition,” offers 8 types of dishes neatly arranged on a long-awaited rectangular plate. It consists of a rich composition of kimchi, pumpkin jam, dongtaejeon, sesame leaf soup, mushroom soup, squid paste, and round balls, so it's fun to choose and eat according to your taste. Another popular menu item is the “Mukjeon Best Oriental Medicine Chopping Board Bossam,” which consists of thickly sliced pork belly boiled in Chinese herbal broth and placed on a cutting board. The tender bosam and sweet bosam kimchi bring out the rich flavor to the fullest.

â–²Price: Rural market group exhibition (small) 18,000 won, Mukjeon's best Chinese medicine cutting board bosam 35,000 won

â–²Review (Shikigami Koit): This is a famous collection located near Dosan Park in Apgujeong! It's a place that particularly reminds me of a rainy day, and after visiting many times, I recommend the beef, muksabal, and rice crackers. I don't feel much of a house and it's clean. It's nice to make a reservation even on weekdays, and there are terrace seats, so I think terrace seats are popular in cool weather these days. If it's makgeolli before the platter, there's nothing wrong with that.

4. “Jeonju Complete Collection” at the shrine, where you can enjoy a hot meal with Makgeolli and Paldo Makgeolli

“Jeonju Jeonjip” offers a variety of menus such as samgyeopjeon, shiitake mushroom soup, and red fish paste using various ingredients such as meat, vegetables, and seafood in the alley in front of Sadang. The signature menu is “Assorjeon+Kimchi Jjigae,” where you can enjoy assorted rice balls and kimchi stew, which consists of dongtaejeon, sesame leaf jeon, pumpkin jeon, sasongjeon, tofu stew, and doughnut stew all at once. You can get a glimpse of the owner's consideration of serving it in two batches so that you can eat it warm before making it at the same time you order it. Kimchi stew, which is a sharp soup, captures the rich flavor unique to all, so it's good to eat it in the middle. Each region also has a variety of makgeolli that will make the most of their flavors, such as Jeongseon's “Gondre Makgeolli,” Gapyeong's “Pine Nut Makgeolli,” and Jeju's “Udo Peanut Makgeolli.”

â–²Testimonial (Daredevil): The line is long, but the turnover rate is faster than I expected, so I quickly get in. There were so many types of makgeolli, so I ordered the one that looked delicious, but personally, the corn makgeolli was really delicious. Hehe, I ate the rice crackers as a group restaurant, but there are many other sets besides this, so it's great to go in groups!

“Mia Jeon” is a Korean wine bar where you can enjoy a Korean-based snack menu and wine pairings, including rice crackers. Inspired by Barcelona, Spain, the interior is decorated with FLOS lights and furniture by Hans Wegner and Nanna Dyssel on the red walls, creating a modern yet romantic atmosphere. The signature menu, “Potato Zen,” is a potato cut into thin slices, rolled up in layers like a pancake, and served with shower cream. The contrast between the crispness on the outside and the moisture on the inside makes it fun to chew. In addition to wine, they also have a variety of alcoholic beverages such as tequila, whiskey, and vodka, so you can enjoy them according to your taste.

â–²Testimonial (Shikigami Flava139): I wonder if my house is such a beautiful place. Haha, it's a great feeling to just go on a date or go to a second place on a blind date! The plating of the food is so pretty, and the combination of eating Korean food and wine together is unique, but it really went better together than I thought! Hehe, I personally recommend that you try the potato paste!
