Napoli Tongyeong in Korea. You can enjoy plenty of seafood throughout the year, but winter is particularly rich. Every port is full of seasonal fish that get plump during the winter, such as waterfish, cod, red snapper, anchovies, red snapper, red sea bream, red mullet, and whale, and hands are busy even at oyster, abalone, and yellowtail farms that can be seen from the coast.
In the past, Tongyeong was the largest military city in Joseon, home to the Samdo Su-gun Jeong-seong, which independently ruled the Su-gun of Jeolla, Gyeongsang, and Chungcheong-do. When the rich ingredients of the three provinces met with the vibrant food culture of the city, Tongyeong's unique food culture began to flourish. Even now, according to Tongyeong City Hall's fishery status, Tongyeong has a strong fishery city and a treasure trove of fishery products, with the population making a living from the fishery industry in Tongyeong close to 19,000 people. You can find plenty of seafood at any restaurant. Tachi restaurants are also popular for those who want to enjoy a variety of seafood little by little.
If you stop by Tongyeong, be sure to stop by the market, which is a paradise for seafood. Seoho Market is located near Tongyeong Intercity Bus Terminal, and is bustling with tourists who come early in the morning to explore Seoho Market's food, such as Shirak Guk and Ucha. Central Market, where you can buy fresh fish and seafood at reasonable prices, is also worth recommending. There is Dongpirang Mural Village near Central Market, so it's a good idea to explore it together.

It is famous for its hot pot stew, but in winter, you should try the limited menu of mulmega-tang. In Namhae, rice fish soup is mainly cooked using rice crackers, and the soft, fluffy texture like eating porridge is unique but appealing. The water fish soup here is made by slowly simmering radish and zucchini, and the soup is full of mild vegetable sweetness. The rich aroma of fish and the unique refreshing umami are added to create an addictive Haejang soup that makes you think again and again.

2. Fresh cod soup full of rich oil, Tongyeong 'Sujung Restaurant'

A restaurant nestled along a simple alley. It's a simple restaurant run by an elderly couple in a space with a clear view of the kitchen, but it has a depth of flavor. Jolbok soup and mongai bibimbap are particularly famous, but in winter, they offer a limited menu of mulmeshi soup and raw cod soup. Raw cod soup is made by putting chewy cod in a refreshing basic broth, and it has the rich flavor of fish oil unique to cod. As for the side dishes, you can enjoy a hearty meal with six different dishes from time to time.

When it comes to Haejang in Tongyeong, many people choose bok guk along with rockfish soup. Manseong Bok Jip, a fukguk specialty store located in Seoho Market, is famous for its freshly cooked pufferfish soup. On weekends when crowds are crowded, they only sell jolbok soup. A small pufferfish called âbok seomâ is used, and in Namhae, this jolboktang is often eaten as a haejang soup. It contains plenty of well-groomed pufferfish, buttercups, and bean sprouts, and the refreshing flavor is excellent. While enjoying the clear soup, you can also add minced seasoning to make it spicy and eat it.

â²Testimonial (Shikigami jellyfish): While I was looking for a restaurant in Tongyeong, I was worried that the manseongbok pufferfish that came out at the popular food party wasn't my favorite style, but I still decided to try it. It was nice because there were so many basic dishes, and it was an unusual anchovy sashimi, but it was a delicacy. I tried it for the first time, but I think it was really tasty and really healthy? I definitely recommend you try it
4. Spicy and refreshing rockfish maeuntang, Tongyeong 'Hansanseom Restaurant'

A spicy soup is boiled with rockfish, which has excellent tender flesh. It's easy to think of spicy soup being cooked with high viscosity, rich, and spicy in sashimi restaurants, but Tongyeong is characterized by the fact that the soup is clear and refreshing because it is seasoned only with red pepper powder and garlic without using gochujang. The portion is also very generous; a bowl of rice and a bowl of rockfish soup is enough to keep you full all day long, even if you overdo it a little bit. Rockfish is delicious even when eaten grilled. The savory oily flavor of plump winter rockfish gives a sense of satisfaction.

It operates a restaurant that doubles as a cafe, and is characterized by a clean atmosphere. The wood-toned interior, rattan, and plants create an exotic atmosphere. It is popular as an oyster course meal, and its signature menu, âHoeun-jeong oyster course,â consists of scallops, grilled oysters in butter, oysters, raw oyster sashimi, oyster sauce, oyster bibimbap, and seafood miso earthenware pot. The bento is served with onion sauce and Tabasco hot sauce, making you feel like you've come to a nice oyster bar. The butter-grilled oyster has a strong flavor of butter and grana padano cheese, and the crumble topping makes the texture interesting. A place where various dishes made with oysters are pleasing to the palate and the eye.
