korean food / seoul / Let’s go to the sandwich open run! Top 5 emerging sandwich powerhouses in Seoul – 2902

The war that began with hamburgers is spreading to sandwiches. Not only Renwich, famous in New York, USA, but also Earl of Sandwich, which has branches around the world, recently opened in Korea. After the Earl of Sandwich put roast beef between bread in 1762 to focus on playing cards, sandwiches have been the perfect meal for busy modern people. Here are 5 of the hottest sandwich restaurants in Seoul these days.

1. Enjoy an American specialty sandwich in Yeouido, and Yeouido's “Renwitch”

Renwich is a sandwich specialty store founded by Korean “Brian Joo” and has been loved by locals for over 30 years in New York, USA. The first branch in Korea was opened at IFC Mall in Yeouido earlier this year. The categories were divided into hot sandwiches, cold sandwiches, and salads. The signature menu “Renwitch” is a good combination of the salty flavors of pastrami and corned beef and the refreshing coleslaw.

World famous sandwich brand Earl of Sandwich recently opened its first Korean store in Apgujeong. Unlike salad-like sandwiches that were popular in Korea, they sell warm-style sandwiches with a stronger green flavor of grilled meat and cheese. The signature menu, “Earl's Club,” is filled with chicken, bacon, Swiss cheese, tomatoes, and romaine. “Original 1762,” which is filled with roast beef and cheddar cheese, is also popular.

The name probably came from the small and comfortable atmosphere of the wood base, which seemed to escape from reality. At Cafe Doppy, a brunch shop in Mangwon-dong, you can enjoy a unique carrot lappe sandwich. Place brie cheese and prosciutto on top of firm bread, then add carrot latte marinated in homemade sauce to complete. The sweet and sour orange carrot satisfies both the shape, texture, and flavor. They are also sold as bottled salads because of their popularity.

A bakery in Gangnam famous for having an open run. Madeleine and Huinang Si are famous for their delicious but chewy baguette sandwiches such as cookies. The most popular “grill” is filled with arugula and cheese and sweetened slightly with bell pepper jam. “Fig prosciutto” has a fantastic balance of sweet-tasting pickled figs, soft and savory ricotta cheese, and salty prosciutto.

A sandwich shop with a casual interior that makes you feel refreshed when you're in the US and the music that comes out. The signature menu, “Pastrami Queens,” is filled with pastrami, cheese, cabbage, and pickles, and flavored with onion jam and mustard. The subtle sweetness of the onion jam balances the balance, and you can enjoy the rich, natural flavor of an American-style sandwich. The weighting is long, so it's a good idea to check it out.

â–²Location: 32, Gangnam-daero 110-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul

â–²Business hours: 11:30 – 20:30 every day (B/T 15:30 – 17:00)

â–²Price: Pastrami Queens 14,800 won, The Porgheta 12,800 won, Zambonbeur 9,800 won

â–²Review (Shikigami Oompa Roompa): A sandwich that properly recreates American flavors in an American-inspired interior! The pastrami was very full, and it was moist, so it was delicious.
